17U College Prep Team Kicks Off Fall Campaign with Blue Chip Prospect Tournament ( at Baseball Heaven) and Future Starz Tournament - Rhode Island

Our inaugural 17U “College Prep” Showcase Team kicks off the fall season at Baseball Heaven September 8 -10, participating in the Blue Chip Prospects Showcase Tournament, followed by the Future Starz Tournament at Brown University - Providence and University of Rhode Island, the weekend of September 23-24. The purpose of this tournament team is to allow our college-bound players an efficient opportunity to showcase their skills to college coaches and possibly pro scouts, increasing their recruiting probabilities. This 17U team participates solely in college showcase tournaments.

The team is being run by Tom McIntosh Jr. and John Rivera.

McIntosh is a graduate of our baseball program and pitched at Pace University (D-II) for Manager Hank Manning. Tom joined the Pace varsity baseball team in Fall 2011 as a walk-on Freshman, where he saw 15 innings on the mound with one start. After shoulder surgery his sophomore year, Tom’s rehabilitation resulted in limited action in his final two years. Since graduating in 2015, Tom has coached Thunder teams in each of the past three summers, as well as being a pitching instructor at both our Winter Workouts and some individual work with Thunder players. In addition to a passion for college baseball, Tom brings to our program a solid commitment and know-how to help pitchers minimize their risk of injury.

Rivera has been involved in SBR for 15 years. In his time with SBR, Rivera has had more than his fair share of success, starting with house league and summer travel coaching assignments, and having just completed his tenth season as an all-star/Thunder coach. Rivera coached the 2008 15U State Championship team (3rd place in the New England Regionals) in Manchester, NH, and the 2010 15U Regional Championship team (5th place in the World Series) in Monticello, AK. In addition to a simple love for the game, Rivera brings to the Fall team a commitment to assist college-bound players and their parents navigate the dizzying college recruiting process and the college selection process as efficiently and cost-effectively as possible.

The 17U Select Showcase team is left in good hands with this coaching staff and will be participating in several quality showcase tournaments
